Joey Make-up opening!

So with the previous post on the Bridal Make-up photos. Here we have the opening of Joey’s Make-up studio. As most of you might know about the pricey rent in Hong Kong. Most of the photographers, make-up artist, wedding gown vendors can’t afford to hire big spaces. So what we have in Hong Kong are these small size office/studio to suit our needs. They are good enough for make-up trial or meeting with clients.  The importance is the location right at Tsim Sha Tsui, which is one of the well gathered area with many wedding gown vendors, make-up artists and photographers nearby. So it’s a very convenient location for couples to shop for their wedding.

With Joey’s setup, she puts a lot of DIY to decorate her studio. Check them out.

The Bling Bling card holder and photo album!

Check that telephone!

Joey Make-up clock and the digital photo frame to show off her works. It also plays music. Nice!

Oh look at those pretty photos on the wall :)

Joey spent her time DIY some gifts for her friends to take away. Lovely stuff.

Did a fun job for a Make-up artist Joey Lam. She did like 10 or 12 make-up and hair styling changes in 5 hours. The models were all nice and fun to work with. I setup a simple lighting with 3 strobes: One at top left, one at middle right and one point to the back to lit the background. Photos retouched by Danny Chan, who’s a famous designer in Hong Kong. All dresses are from Vianei Wedding. Joey just started her own make-up shop. More photos on that soon.

In the week of 4-11 April. I’ll be traveling to Perth, Western Australia to work with Chris Kueh. He’s a talented wedding photographer and graphic designer who also loves taking photos under natural light. I’m looking forward to work with him and explore the beautiful city to find amazing locations for engagement, family portrait and children.

For more information, please visit here http://www.wix.com/ChrisKueh/garyw_chrisk. Hurry and book a session with us to have some fun and get to keep your precious pictures!

A few days after I posted Honmi’s wedding. I received a message from my twitter. It was the owner of Ruffled Blog asking for my permission to reference my photos of Honmi’s wedding. I was so exciting how people all over the world could see my works. Really honored and I will continue with what I love to do.

Perth refreshing visit

It was 2 years ago that I last visited Perth. Every time I go back, there are a few things that I must do. First, go to the beach for a swim and get some sun tan. Second, go to vineyards for wine tasting. Last but not least, eat nice food with buddies. I didn’t take many photos for this trip as most of the time was just relaxing and so, not bother to bring anything out.
Photos were taken while sitting down for yummy food. That’s the time I spent most with my camera.

perth_201001_01Went to Houghton, one of the finest vineyard in Perth. Very relaxing atmosphere with fine food.

perth_201001_02perth_201001_03perth_201001_04This is Deli Chicchi café. One of a kind that sells books, provisions and gifts. Of course they serve yummy and fresh food.

Honmi + Mathew Wedding

The last wedding of 2009 ended on a fine sunny day. The temperature was perfect for wedding. I arrived a little early to walk around at the location. It was at Sam Yuk Middle School in Sai Kung. This place is quite well known with pretty grass area and because it is out of the town. We don’t get horrible high rise buildings which would affect the pretty scene.

It was only a luncheon ceremony and reception, so it started at around 1pm and finished just before sunset. Since it was a luncheon reception, so everyone felt more like a small gathering with friends and family. The outdoor area allowed the children to have a little fun too.

The most amazing thing on the wedding was the Bride. Of course, as usual the Bride must be amazing, because she’s the focus on the day. But no, not that because she has the amazing gown or she looks pretty. Well, she of course is pretty, but not just that. It is what she did for her wedding. The details were all created by herself, with the help of her friends. All the decorations and ideas were put together beautifully. I thought she works as one of the wedding vendor not until the maid of honor told me it was just her own hobby. Wow…so amazing what she did.

Although the couple was a little shy sometimes, but the day went well. Thanks for the pretty weather and the pretty details. Enjoyed it so much.

We had some really hot and really cold weather during this winter in Hong Kong. While it is hot, the sky just fogs up and it’ll becomes gray. Anyway, it’s better than when it is cold and humid.

With this shoot, the couple is actually not engaged. They are so in love that they want to take an engagement session. It was really amazing, because they were not shy. A lot of hugging and kissing which normally won’t see in Asian couples. Especially in front of a camera.

So this round, the couple suggested to go Ma Wan Island. Which is an isolated location right next to the Ching Ma Bridge. With this location, I brought them to the quiet Ma Wan Village where soon or later will be reconstructed to new high rise.

Nephew Aidan – style check

It was on x’mas day that we had a family gathering. Before dinner we went for a walk at Bowen Road. The day was warm, so it was an easy walk. The only kid around was my nephew Aidan. He loves to walk and so I took a few shots of him. Check out his outfit, so smart and fashionable, that’s a standard modeling for kid I reckon.

The TiKin Wedding

Well, they call themselves TiKin by merging Bride’s name Tik and Groom’s name Kin together. The Wedding day was an overcast day, but everybody had so much fun. I especially love seeing couples with smiles all the time, kissing and hugging without being shy. And Tik and Kin did just that. So many lovely photos and moment were captured on camera.

I really want to get this post up as I promised Tik to show her more before New Year. So here you go. I hope you enjoy the photos and share your happiness with everyone.

P.S. I really like those photos taken on the bed, well Tik and Kin on the bed.. Really awesome with those fun.

Ceremony: Heritage Baptist Church (學基浸信會)

Outdoor locations in Hong Kong are not easy to scout, especially those are convenient and not too much walking from transportation. Discovery Bay in Hong Kong happens to have some beautiful scenes that meet my needs. It is easy to get there, although there are no private car access to this isolated suburb. But it’s easy enough to drop off by bus and walk a little bit between photo locations.

The best is to start off from the Plaza, where change to gown and make up retouch can be done. Then walk off along the beach for a few shots and up through the lanes near the villages for more photos. There are other locations in Discovery Bay which would need to take bus or hire a driver to get around. Look out for those new places soon.
